How to Curl My Hair With a Curling Iron

So you have a good curling iron in your hands, but how do you use it? Without the right technique you risk spending hours on your hair just to receive bad looking results, so here's how to curl your hair properly with your curling iron for those bouncy looking curls that will add texture and life to your style.

First, untangle your hair with a wide-toothed comb and apply some heat protectant to shield your hair from damage. Next, section your hair into a top layer and a bottom layer. Clip the top layer up and spray some more heat protectant on the bottom layer. Comb through again and plug in your curling iron to let it heat up to the right temperature.

Take a one-inch section of hair and place the barrel on the hair close to the roots, then wrap the rest of the section of hair around the barrel spiralling upwards towards the tip. Hold it in place for 6-10 seconds and then slide the barrel out. If you have a spring curling iron, then clip the ends of the section and roll the iron upwards, hold it close to your scalp for a few seconds, then release your new curl.

Continue sectioning and curling until you've finished the whole layer. Unclip the upper section and keep curling until you've finished your whole head of hair. Now remember that natural curls aren't in perfect rows, so here's a tip to give your new style a more natural look. Use different sized curling irons or curl sections of varying thicknesses for a more spontaneous appearance. Once you're done, mist on some hair spray or a shine serum for a glossy finish.

Now if you own a clipless curling iron, then you don't have to limit yourself to regular curls. With the right know-how you can get other styles just as easy. For a wavy curl, use wide sections of hair and as you hold the root, wrap the section of hair around the barrel. Hold for 5-7 seconds and slide the barrel out. While the curl is still warm, gently pull on the end of the hair to loosen and elongate the curl. You can create a spiral curl with a small barrel and by using smaller sections of hair. Wrap it around the barrel and leave it on a little longer, then to make sure that the curls keeps its shape hold the hair as you slide it off the barrel and scrunch it up so it doesn't drop.

So for all kinds of curly and wavy styles, choose a professional clipless curling iron and give yourself brilliant styles with every use.
